Linea Light: Warm Tune technology, towards lighting design on a human scale

The need to ensure steady and lasting individual well-being is taking on an increasingly central role in lighting design, with what is commonly called Human Centric Lighting: a design methodology that focuses on the individual, his being, his needs and requirements. This recognises that lighting has a pivotal role, as an instrument to improve the quality of visual comfort and our physiological and psychological comfort as human beings.

In this sense, it plays a central role in creating dynamic artificial light systems capable of stimulating our biological mechanisms and maintaining unchanged the normal pattern of circadian rhythms (our body clock) in all those environments where natural light is insufficient or even absent, including offices, schools, nursing facilities and home environments, etc.

Devising dynamic lighting systems does not mean necessarily thinking only in terms of physiological well-being and circadian rhythms, but also creating comfortable spaces, in which the intensity and temperature of the light colour can be changed by the user, to create the setting most suited to our requirements and to ensure an optimal state of well-being that could be called “psychological”.

Light is a powerful design tool: consider, for example, a romantic dinner at home or in a restaurant, with soft and very warm lights, reminiscent of the flame of a candle which relaxes us and makes us fully enjoy the evening in good company.

A phenomenon that can be translated, in simple terms, through the Kruithof diagram of 1941, which describes how and when we, as human beings, perceive a room as illuminated more or less comfortably, depending on the colour temperature and illumination.

The diagram above shows how a warmer light is perceived as natural or comfortable at lower levels of ambient lighting.

Exactly what happened by “dimming” the traditional incandescent bulb, at home or in a restaurant, to create more relaxing environments, and what you can get today through the evolutions in LED technology.

The revolution of LED technology and Warm Tune by Linea Light Group

In more detail, the introduction of LED Technology is bringing a real revolution to the lighting sector, both in terms of energy-saving and as a new opportunity to create miniaturised systems managed in a dynamic way which – on the other hand – were only partly achievable when using conventional light sources.

In particular, the Warm Tune system by Linea Light Group, the result of Smooth Dimming technology, allows you to adjust the colour temperature from 3000K to 1800K, reducing light intensity, simulating the very warm and comfortable light that you could get with the old incandescent lamps.

Warm Tune LED technology is obtained with a LED array, in which diodes are installed with different colour temperatures (1800 K and 3000 K) in different quantities.

This is characterised by excellent colour rendering, of fundamental importance to ensure a correct perception of objects and the living space. Warm Tune in addition, due to its high CRI92 colour rendering, ensures correct and consistent colour perception, even at minimum dimming (down to 5% of power).

In conclusion, therefore, it is now possible to design lighting on a human scale, using LED technology instead of the traditional sources, provided that upstream there is lighting design, skillfully created by a qualified professional.
